In the home of brothers, Graham and Dennis Lamb, Jr.; Dennis' Hideaway offers the guaranteed freshest catches of fish you will ever eat. ramshackle structure with a scattering of homemade picnic tables, Dennis's may
be decidedly grubby, but it serves good, basic local seafood. For 35 years,
starting in 1968, eccentric owner Dennis Lamb could usually be found stirring
his stews and arguing with local patrons about the state of the world. Since his
death in 2003, his son, Graham has taken the helm. Order the "fish dinner with
the works" -- a feast of shark hash on toast, conch fritters, mussel stew, conch
stew, fish chowder, fried fish, conch steak, shark steak, shrimp, and scallops
for around $35. The
chef may even throw in some bread-and-butter pudding for good measure. Only the
most determined diners can partake, though, as hours are erratic and the place
is way off the beaten path. Reservations essential. No credit cards."
